Varnika Kundu, barely escaped after she was chased around on the roads by two men in an SUV in Chandigarh, a city in India, which is considered a safer city than those that are in the media for rape.

She called the cops after realising that the danger was real. Finally, one of the guys got off his vehicle and charged towards her like he meant business. That is when the cops showed up.

The culprits were charged with stalking and let out on bail hours later.

Now, a politician in India, Ramveer Bhatti, is getting criticism for his comments on the situation. “The girl should not have gone out at 12 in the night. Why was she driving so late in the night? The atmosphere is not right. We need to take care of ourselves,” Bhatti told a local news outlet.

Women all over India are now taking selfies at midnight with the hashtag #aintnocinderella to make a statement on the comments made by the politician.
