In a statement given to BoxingNewsOnline.net on Thursday, Sky Sports has confirmed that Mayweather vs McGregor brought in well over 1 million pay-per-view buys in the United Kingdom, breaking the previous record.

The previous U.K. record was set in April of this year by Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko in their heavyweight showdown. That heavyweight battle blew away the previous record set by Mayweather and Pacquiao in 2015, which brought in 700k buys.

The final numbers are still being worked out, but the confirmation of this fight breaking the U.K. record will definitely help solidify the already anticipated record for worldwide PPV buys as the North American numbers are being finalized.

Stephen Espinoza from Showtime told MMAjunkie last week that Mayweather vs McGregor was “trending” to break the Mayweather vs Pacquiao PPV record which was 4.6 million buys. A couple of days prior, UFC President Dana White made the bold claim that the worldwide PPV buys came in at an astounding 6.5 million buys.

As we wait for the official PPV numbers to come in, it was revealed on Wednesday that the live gate numbers of Mayweather vs McGregor fell short of Mayweather vs Pacquiao according to figures released by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

“The Money Fight” at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas sold 13,094 tickets for a gate of $55.4 million. The Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight sold 16,219 tickets and brought in $72.2 million at the gate, a significant amount more than Mayweather vs McGregor.
