This takes chocolate addictions to a whole new level.
A new product on the market claims to give people a legal, drug-free way to get a boost of energy.
Oh, and it’s snortable.
Coco Loko is a chocolate powder that is absorbed up the nose to give its users a euphoric high.
Created by the company Legal Lean, Coco Loko mixes cacao with ingredients most often found in energy drinks.
According to the product description, Coco Loko will provide people with endorphin and serotonin rushes, a euphoric energy and a calm focus that will “help with anxiety and to reduce stress.”
The New York Post noted the energy product contains not only cacao but also gingko bilboa, taurine and guarana, the common goods found in drinks such as Monster and Red Bull. The end result of using Coko Loko will be an up to an hour long energy boost without the side effects of a sugar crash.
Doctors aren’t sure what to think about the product.
“The question is, what are the risks of doing it?” Dr. Andrew Lane, director of the Johns Hopkins Sinus Center, told the Denver Post. “There’s no data, and as far as I can tell, no one’s studied what happens if you inhale chocolate into your nose.”
A tin of Coco Loko currently retails for US$24.99. Nick Anderson, the man behind Legal Lean, said the product is popular in the hip-hop community as well as near college campuses in Houston, Texas, and Atlanta, Ga.
